Mayor de Blasio’s vaccine mandate for New York City went into effect on December 27. The mandate has a number of rules specific to employers:
• All private employers must verify that their on-site workers have received at least one dose of a vaccine, and that if they have opted for a two-dose vaccine, proof that they have obtained their second dose within 45 days.
• Employers must gather and record the vaccination status of onsite workers, and store this health information in compliance with federal law.
• Employers must be able to provide audit information on demand.
• Fines for non-compliance will start at $1,000.
Mayor de Blasio has said that inspections will be focused on education for the first week, with fines coming for later violations or continued non-compliance. Mayor-Elect Eric Adams has stated that his office will offer a statement on the mandate later this week.
